SMS Communication Policy

At Precision Cornea Centre Inc. (“we,” “our,” or “us”), we are committed to providing excellent care and communication to our patients. This SMS Communication Policy explains how we use texting messaging (SMS) to communicate with you regarding your healthcare, appointments, reminders, and other related services. By using our services and agreeing to receive SMS communication, you acknowledge and accept the terms outlined in this policy.

 

1. Purpose

  • We use SMS communication for the following purposes:

    • Appointment Reminders: To remind you of upcoming appointments, provide details such as the date, time, location, and any preparation instructions.

    • Appointment Confirmation and Cancellations: to confirm or notify you of appointment cancellations or reschedules.

    • Health Reminders and Alerts: Send you important reminders regarding preventative care, screening, and routine health checkups.

    • Prescription and Test Results: In some cases, we may send you updates on prescription refills or test results. ( Please note that detailed medical information is generally not communicated via SMS to ensure privacy.)

    • Emergency Notifications: In rare cases, we may use SMS to send emergency notifications related to your care.

 

2. Consent to Receive SMS Message

  • By providing your mobile number to us, you consent to receive SMS communications for the above purposes. You may receive text messages from us regarding appointment scheduling reminders, health updates and other patient care-related information.

 

3. Opting In and Opting Out

  • Opting in: When you provide your phone number during your visit, registration, or via our patient portal, you agree to receive SMS communications from us.

  • Opting Out: You have the right to opt out of receiving SMS messages at any time. To opt-out, simply reply “STOP” to any message you receive. Once you opt out, you will no longer receive our SMS communications, except for critical messages related to your care or service.

4. Types of Information We Will Send via SMS

  • We may send the following types of non-medical and medical-related communications via SMS:

    • General reminders (e.g. upcoming appointments).

    • Information related to services we offer (e.g. treatments or clinic services).

    • Appointment scheduling and changes (e.g. reminder about forthcoming visits, rescheduling or cancellation).

Please note: We will not send confidential medical information, including diagnoses, medical records, or detailed test results, via SMS. We will use secure communication methods for sensitive health information, such as phone calls or our patient portal.

 

5. Security and Privacy

  • We take your privacy seriously and make efforts to ensure that SMS communications comply with relevant provincial laws and regulations, including PHIPA (Provincial Health Information Protection Act) in Canada.

  • Although SMS is generally a secure means of communication, we recommend not sharing sensitive personal health information through text messages.

  • We will not share your phone number with third parties for marketing purposes.

 

6. Message Frequency and Charges

  • Message frequency may vary depending on the nature of the communications. You may receive serval messages regarding appointment reminders, confirmations, and other patient-related notifications.

  • Standard messaging rates and data fees may apply depending on your mobile carrier and plan.

 

7. Limitations of SMS Communication

  • While SMS is an efficient and timely method of communication, there are some limitations to consider:

    • Text message delivery: SMS messages may occasionally fail to deliver due to network issues, carrier delays, or incorrect phone numbers.

    • No medical advice: SMS communications are intended for information purposes only. They are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

 

8. Emergencies

  • SMS should never be used for emergencies. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or visit the nearest emergency room.

 

9. Changes to This Policy

  • We may update this SMS Communication Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our communication practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of any significant updates through SMS, email, or our website. Continued use of SMS communication from us will constitute your acceptance of any changes to this policy.
